Things to Do in Acton, CA: A Local Guide for RV Guests

Small-town country life, big views, and easy day trips in every direction.

August 1, 2026 · Local Guide

Acton is a small country town in northern Los Angeles County. It is known for horse properties, open hills, and big skies. If you are looking for things to do in Acton, CA, the answer is a mix of slow local fun and quick trips to the rest of Southern California.

Here is a local guide for guests of The Californian RV Resort.

Enjoy the country setting

Part of the charm of Acton is that there is not much traffic or noise. The resort sits at about 3,000 feet with mountain views all around. Many guests spend their first afternoon just sitting outside.

  • Watch the sunset over the hills.
  • Look for stars on clear nights, away from the brightest city lights.
  • Take an easy walk around the resort.

Hike nearby trails

Vasquez Rocks Natural Area

Just minutes away in Agua Dulce, Vasquez Rocks has huge tilted sandstone formations and easy trails. It is one of the most filmed landscapes in Southern California. A section of the Pacific Crest Trail passes through the park.

The Pacific Crest Trail

The PCT runs through the Acton and Agua Dulce area on its way from Mexico to Canada. You can hike a short stretch as a day trip. In spring, you may meet thru-hikers on their long walk north.

Angeles National Forest

The forest borders Acton. Drive up the Angeles Forest Highway for canyon views, trailheads, and picnic spots.

Drive to the Antelope Valley

Head north on CA-14 to Palmdale and Lancaster for shopping and dining. In spring, the Antelope Valley California Poppy Reserve, west of Lancaster, can be covered in orange poppies.

Go south to Santa Clarita

Santa Clarita is just down CA-14. Six Flags Magic Mountain is in Valencia. Placerita Canyon Natural Area in Newhall has shaded trails and a nature center.

Take a big-city day

Universal Studios Hollywood is about 35 minutes from the resort and Hollywood is about 40 minutes away without heavy traffic. Downtown Los Angeles, the Pasadena Rose Bowl, and the beaches at Venice and Malibu are all doable day trips. See our guide to the Pasadena Rose Bowl and the RV resort near Venice Beach.

Relax at the resort

Some days you will not want to go anywhere. That is fine. The resort has:

  • A pool and hot tub (seasonal)
  • An exercise room
  • A laundry room
  • Complimentary Wi-Fi
