Summer RV Trips in Southern California: Pool Season in Acton

How to beat the heat, plan day trips, and enjoy summer evenings at 3,000 feet.

May 25, 2026 · Seasonal

Summer is road trip season, and Southern California is one of the most popular places to take an RV. Beaches, theme parks, mountains, and desert are all close together. The trick is planning around the heat.

This guide covers what summer is like at The Californian RV Resort in Acton, how to stay cool, and the best summer day trips from the resort.

What summer is like in Acton

Acton sits at about 3,000 feet in the foothills of northern Los Angeles County. Summer days are hot and dry, especially in the afternoon. Mornings and evenings are much more comfortable. Nights often cool off nicely, which is one of the perks of the higher elevation.

Pool season at the resort

Our pool and hot tub are seasonal, and summer is when guests use them most. A swim in the afternoon is the easiest way to cool off after a day out.

Pool rules keep things safe and pleasant for everyone:

  • Swim at your own risk. There is no lifeguard on duty.
  • Children in the pool must have adult supervision at all times.
  • The hot tub is for adults 18 and older.
  • Proper swim attire only, no street clothes.
  • No glass in the pool area.
  • No pets in the pool area.

How to keep your RV cool

  • Park with your awning out to shade the sunny side, and bring it in if the wind picks up.
  • Use window covers or reflective shades.
  • Run your air conditioner before the hottest part of the day, not after.
  • With 50 amp service, you can run two air conditioners. On 30 amp, avoid running big appliances at the same time.

Every site at the resort has full hookups with 30 and 50 amp service.

Summer day trips from Acton

Head to the beach

The coast can be much cooler than inland on a hot day. Venice, Malibu, and Ventura are all popular. See our guides to an RV resort near Malibu Beach and an RV resort near Ventura Beach.

Go early to the theme parks

Six Flags Magic Mountain and Universal Studios Hollywood are both within easy reach. Arrive at opening, take a break midday, and drink lots of water.

Head up into the mountains

The Angeles National Forest borders Acton. Higher elevations are cooler. Check fire conditions and road closures before you go, since summer fire season can close areas.

Summer safety tips

  • Drink water all day, even when you do not feel thirsty.
  • Walk pets early and late, never on hot pavement.
  • Never leave pets or people in a closed vehicle.
  • Follow fire rules. At the resort, only propane grills are allowed. Charcoal grills and open wood fires are not permitted.

Rates

Nightly stays start at $80 per night, weekly stays start at $475, and monthly stays start at $1,300. See our rates and rules page for details.
