Pet-Friendly RV Park Tips: Bringing Your Dog to The Californian
Our pet rules in plain words, plus tips for a happy dog on the road.
Many RVers would not dream of leaving home without their dog. If that is you, finding a pet-friendly RV park is near the top of your list. But pet-friendly can mean different things at different parks.
This post spells out exactly how pets work at The Californian RV Resort in Acton, plus a few tips to keep your dog happy and safe on the road.
Is The Californian a pet-friendly RV park
Yes. Dogs are welcome, with clear rules that keep the resort clean and safe for every guest and every pet. Guests often mention our pet area in their reviews.
Our pet rules
Here are the rules that matter most. You can read the full list on our resort rules and regulations page.
- Up to three dogs per site.
- All pets must be on a leash six feet or shorter whenever they are outside, including when getting in or out of a vehicle.
- Pets may not be left unattended outside your RV at any time.
- Pick up after your pet right away and dispose of waste properly.
- No pets in the pool area or in any resort building, including bathrooms, the laundry room, the exercise room, and the clubhouse.
- No aggressive dogs. Management has final approval of all pets.
Breed restrictions
Some breeds are not allowed at the resort. This includes full or mixed breeds of American or Staffordshire (Pit) Bull Terrier, Rottweiler, Chow, Malamute, Akita, and Doberman, or dogs showing their physical traits. Please call the office at (661) 269-0919 for the complete list before you book.
We know breed rules can be frustrating. Calling ahead means no surprises at check-in.
Tips for RVing with your dog
Plan for the heat
Acton sits at about 3,000 feet, and summer afternoons can be hot. Walk your dog early in the morning and in the evening. Never leave a pet in a closed vehicle. Check the pavement with your hand before a walk. If it is too hot for your hand, it is too hot for paws.
Bring the basics
- A six-foot leash (no long retractable leads)
- Waste bags
- A water bowl and extra water
- Records of vaccines
- A familiar bed or blanket
Watch for wildlife
Acton is rural. You may see coyotes, rabbits, and in warm months, rattlesnakes on nearby trails. Keep your dog close and on leash.
Know the local trails
Some nearby parks welcome dogs on leash. Others do not. The Antelope Valley Poppy Reserve, for example, does not allow dogs on its trails. Check each park's rules before you head out.
Keeping the peace with neighbors
Quiet hours run from 10 PM to 7 AM. A dog that barks for long stretches can disturb others, especially at night. If your dog is anxious in new places, give it a few walks and some quiet time on arrival day.
Rates and booking
Nightly stays start at $80 per night for one or two guests. Weekly stays start at $475 and monthly stays start at $1,300. See our rates and rules page for more.
