RV Parks Near Disneyland: Plan a Day Trip From Acton
Why many RVers skip the crowded parks in Anaheim and make Disneyland a day trip instead.
RV parks near Disneyland fill up fast, and they come with city prices and city noise. If you want to see the park but also want space to breathe when the day is done, there is another way to do it. Stay in the hills, and make Disneyland a day trip.
This guide explains how to plan that day from The Californian RV Resort in Acton. It covers timing, parking, and what to pack so the drive feels easy.
Why stay outside Anaheim
Anaheim is busy. Parks close to Disneyland are often booked months ahead, and sites tend to be tight. Prices climb on weekends and holidays.
Acton is a different world. The resort sits at about 3,000 feet in a quiet country town in northern Los Angeles County. You get full hookups, a pool and hot tub (seasonal), and quiet hours from 10 PM to 7 AM. After a long day of rides and lines, that calm matters.
The trade-off is the drive. Disneyland is roughly 70 miles from Acton. Plan on about an hour and a half with light traffic, and more during rush hour. For many guests, one long drive day is worth a week of quiet nights.
How to plan your Disneyland day trip
A little planning makes the drive much easier.
Leave early
Southern California traffic builds fast on weekday mornings. Leaving Acton early helps you beat the worst of it on CA-14 and I-5. You will also get to the parking garage before the biggest crowds.
Leave your RV at the resort
Do not drive your rig to Anaheim. Leave it hooked up at your site and take your tow car or second vehicle. Parking a car at Disneyland is far easier than parking an RV. Daily and weekly guests can have up to two vehicles per site.
Buy tickets ahead
Check the official Disneyland website for tickets, park hours, and any rules that apply on the day you plan to go. Policies change, so look close to your trip date.
Plan the drive home
Many families stay through the evening shows. If you do, expect a late drive home. Know your route and keep snacks and water in the car.
Make it a two-park trip
Knott's Berry Farm in Buena Park is close to Disneyland. Some guests save it for a separate day trip so each day stays relaxed. Our guide to RV resort stays near Knott's Berry Farm has tips for that day.
What to do on your rest days
Theme park days are long. Plan a slower day after each one. At the resort you can swim in season, do laundry, use the exercise room, or just sit outside and enjoy the mountain views.
Nearby, Vasquez Rocks Natural Area in Agua Dulce is a short drive and makes a nice easy hike. For more ideas, see our things to do near Acton page.
Rates for a Disneyland trip base
Nightly stays start at $80 per night for one or two guests. Members of AAA, AARP, the military, Club Out West, Elks, Escapes, and FMCA can get a starting at $75 discounted nightly rate. Weekly stays start at $475, which is a good fit for a full vacation week.
